These ornaments are made using traditional Glass painting techniques like you would see in Cathedral windows.
I create my own paints by finely grinding a specific type of glass powder. I mix this into my own paints which I apply layer, by layer. These are each fired in my kiln so that the glass in the paint becomes a permanent layer of glass that has joined the glass disc.
The yellow is created using a technique called Silver Stain- where a silver compound is applied, that when fired results in the glass disk changing colour.
The painting on these ornaments will last 100s of years!
