How do I commission a custom piece of stained glass?

The process is highly collaborative. It begins with a design consultation where we discuss your space, ideas, and budget. I then provide custom sketches and colour layouts. Once approved, the piece is meticulously hand-cut, painted (if required), and leaded in my studio.

Is it safe to ship stained glass artwork?

Absolutely. Smaller original window hangings, portraits, and framed fine art are wrapped in specialized, impact-absorbing materials and securely crated to ensure they survive transit safely. For long distances, where I can't deliver personally I will work with you to organise a suitable art courier delivery.

How long does a bespoke stained glass project take?

Lead times vary significantly depending on the size and complexity of the piece, as well as my current commission schedule. On average, smaller window panels are ready in 4 to 8 weeks, while large architectural installations can take 3 to 6 months. An element of this is dependent on the length of time it takes for the 'cement' used for Leaded Stained Glass Windows to set and become durable enough for installation, and the complexity of the design.

Do I need any prior experience for your classes?

No experience is required. My stained glass courses are completely beginner-friendly. I walk you through the safety rules, glass cutting, and leading techniques step-by-step in an encouraging, low-pressure environment.

Can custom stained glass be double or triple glazed?

Yes. For external windows and front doors, traditional leaded panels can be encapsulated inside a modern double or triple-glazed sealed unit. This protects the art while maintaining your home's thermal efficiency and security.

Do you handle the final structural installation?

For local projects in Devon and surrounding areas, I work alongside trusted local joiners and glazes to oversee installation. For clients further afield, I provide exact dimensions and technical specifications so your local builder or glazier can easily fit the panel.
